At the core of the station, we find Project Cannibal.
Moving past the lab, following the signs, we head into a large room (20×20?), there is a large rolling door at the far side. Inside is a metal box, looks like a coffin or sarcauphagus, though it looks too large. It’s standing up on its end, upright. There is a large muscular man in it (so it seems to be open). He seems to be restrained with bindings on his arms and legs.
Liesl and Tybalt look at the device, and think it seems like not a restraint for him, but some kind of interface into a machine of some kind, like he is linked into a dreadnought or other vehicle (though they don’t see anything)
nearby, there is a woman seated at a table, wearing a drab prison type uniform – it’s Lady Gray! She’s missing an arm and shackled at the leg, to the table. Once we enter, she points at us and starts screaming – “Burn them! Heretics!” She gradually stops shouting, and then begins singing Imperial hymns.
The man in the box begins talking to them about how he dislikes the inquisition, they are a worm burrowing into the heart of the emperor. (it is grok’thar). He tells them about how he is a weapon that will eventually take out the inquisition, including the party. He thinks all of the inquisition is the same, and will all meet their own fate, but he wants to follow the party to be able to take out their enemies first, and then kill them.
The conversation didn’t really improve, Grok’thar wanted them to agree to use his powers against other inquisitors, and no one else wnated to take him up on his offer. Eventually his ‘pod’ dropped down into the floor, Leisl fired off a shot which hit him directly into the chest, but was unable to kill him. They heard machinery working behind the floor and walls, while Dariel freed lady gray and Tybalt tried to get what information he could out of a cogitator. In just a minute, the rolling doors at the back open up, and a huge Dreadnought (10 m high), steps out, eager to slaughter them. They run, as the thing seems like it could slaughter them almost instantly.
They manage to escape, they warned the guardsmen in the bay they may want to get in their smushed ship, as the party got into their shuttle, and set up the bay doors to open and distract them with the vacuum. They managed to escape without getting killed.
On the files: Phylus’s Mistakes, ways to improve on Phylus’ mistakes, and other insanity inducing titles (argent vanguard next steps) They also find some data on Emelda Gray’s interrogation (lady gray). There are some log files of the process. She had a psychic trigger in her mind that they failed to find, which drove her insane.
There are also logs from Constance there, when she was trying to work on the project, when she fought against Lady Gray, and grew a grudging respect, even though they disagreed on their goals and values.
They have more info, where they show that they think Phylus was wrong – on some things. They think that the tyrant star is a portal, and could theoretically be sealed forever, but would require an incredible psychic power to do, so instead they want to seal it regularly. They want to send a message to Link (currently holding the portal), so that they can know when and where to open it and let in a replacement. They got this info from interviewing the previous portal holder opener.
There is other info critiquing Phylus’ info on how many souls are necessary to open a portal, they find that innocence doesn’t matter, and that there’s a mathematical formula showing the number of souls for a certain size portal.
Lots of this info is in there from Constance, talking about how she was wrong and Grok’thar and crew were right.
